Ebates

If you're like me and you love shopping online, then this is for you! You can earn cashback on each purchases you do (all you have to do is select the store from their website). That crucial step might seem simple but it's easy to forget. I shop a lot on Sephora and I usually get 4% cashback but sometimes you can get 8%.
Some of the stores eligible for cashback:
Ebates is available in the following countries:

How it Works

1) Shop with Ebates: There's an extensive list of stores to shop from. Simply click on the store and it will direct you there. This is a crucial step and if you forget to do so, then you won't earn cashback.
2) Earn Cashback: Get cashback within 48 hours but sometimes it can much longer to confirm a transaction.
  • If you book a hotel or air ticket, then you might have to wait till your trip is completed.
  • If you're in Canada and you order from BorderFree stores (stores such as Sephora or Nordstrom that calculate taxes during checkout), you might have to wait a little longer.
  • Refer a friend: You get $5 for each person you refer. Person has to sign up and make a minimum purchase of $25.
  • Double Cashback: They have these promotions where you earn double cashback on the stores.
3) Get Paid: You get a cheque every 3 months: May, August, November, Febuary.
    • Transactions posted between:
      • January 1 to March 31 (Cheque is sent on May 15)
      • April 1 to June 30 (Cheque is sent on August 15)
      • July 1 to September 30 (Cheque is sent on November 15)
      • October 1 to December 31 (Cheque is sent on Febuary 15)
    • You must have a minimum balance of $5.01 (excludes cashback earned through referrals).

Review
I love Ebates! I got 2 cheques from there so far. The recent one being $50. It's great for people who love shopping online. I usually shop online for beauty items but for clothes, I do prefer shopping in-stores unless if I know my size.
Pros
  • Easy: All you have to do is go on Ebates and click link from there to shop online. It's easy but it's something to get used to. I used to forget doing so at first but eventually, it just becomes a habit.
  • Fast: You can see the cashback deposited into your account in a couple of days after you shop online. Travel-related transactions do take some time though. Aside from that, it's quite fast!
Cons
  • Doesn't offer all the stores: It doesn't offer all the stores. It really depends on where you shop the most. I'm quite satisfied with the list of stores that it offers. At one point though, it took off Sephora from Ebates Canada (there were some issues) but then it got resolved luckily.
  • Lack of clarity: Although they do list down your cashback activity for the past 3 months (store, tracking number and date/time), I wish they did tell status there. For example, if you shopped at Sephora, then I wish they would say the cashback is pending or accepted instead of just listing down all of them. The reason why I wish this was an option is because sometimes I'm not sure if a transaction was processed especially when it comes to travel (cashback usually takes much longer, so you have to wait and see if you got cashback).

How is it different from Rewards Programs?
Of course you have similar concept with some credit cards or rewards programs such as Airmiles, where you earn rewards by shopping through their website. I personally prefer Ebates because I noticed you end up earning more. That's the conclusion I came up with by calculating. You can do the same and see how much you would earn through each program. Of course, it also depends on where you shop!
